The 2017 Phoenix Awards Honors the Chapter’s Membership

The 2017 Phoenix Awards: Rising from the Ashes Celebrating Southern Legacy was a night of celebration. This annual awards gala recognizes our chapter’s volunteer members and sponsors as well as the overall successes of another great year. Through the amazing support of our sponsors, the Phoenix Awards were held June 15, 2017 at the Atlanta History Center in the heart of Buckhead.

Congratulations to all the nominees and the winners.

Committee of the Year Award – 2016 Phoenix Awards Committee
The Phoenix Award for Committee of the Year ironically goes to the committee whose sole purpose is why they were nominated. This team conceptualized and produced the not to be missed event of the year. The creative and talented team partnered with some amazing sponsors who introduced new ideas and experiences, and created a magical night.
Rising Star of the Year Award – Lissette Mathus, Dave & Buster's Atlanta
Lissette worked closely with the Education team to make all events a great success.  She conducted site visits, created run of shows, PowerPoint presentations, and worked with venues and caterers for the specific needs of all programs.
Chapter Leader of the Year – Chris Bonnett, CMP, Omnience
Chris has worked diligently to get our local meeting industry friends and students as excited as this recipient is about MPI Georgia. His past involvement as a student member at Georgia State has been instrumental in speaking to our current and future members about the amazing opportunities our organization provides to those looking to work in this industry.

Supplier Member of the Year Award – Tara Brashear, Freeman
Tara served two terms on the MPI Georgia Board of Directors and remains involved planning our Networking Events. Freeman is a tremendous supplier partner with their generous donations which assist in making MPI Georgia events a complete success.
Planner Member of the Year Award – Chris Bonnett, CMP, Omnience
Chris served as chair of one committee and co-chair of another, and has helped plan four successful and fully sponsored networking events in unique venues around the city.
Innovative Concept Award – 2017 Tech Summit: App and The Game of Techs
The Tech Summit Committee created an app for attendee registration and interaction. The Game of Techs allowed attendees to connect with the sponsors and exhibitors prior to and during the summit.  It was great fun to watch the attendees working together to enhance the hi-tech event experience.

President’s Award – Sybil A. Lee, CMP, World of Coca-Cola
The prestigious award recipient is determined solely by the Chapter President to honor the volunteer that epitomizes the values and meaning of MPI Georgia. Sybil served as the Vice President of Strategic Events, and was the driving force behind our four largest annual programs. Her passion and dedication to our organization shines clearly through her hard work and continued success in all endeavors.
Hall of Fame – Ginny Izydore, Barnsley Resort
This stellar recognition award is bestowed on a long-standing member who has committed at least a decade of service to our association. For 20 years, Ginny has served as a key volunteer in numerous committees and also served as a board member. Ginny epitomizes the quality member that we strive to recruit and engage within our chapter.
Hayward C. Cox, Jr., CMP Continuing Quality Award – Carol D. Hall, Augusta Marriott at the Convention Center
Hayward C. Cox, Jr., was a ground-breaking leader for MPI Georgia and the Atlanta meeting industry. This award is presented to a member having given long-time, valued service to our chapter. Carol is always engaged in chapter events whether it be at educational programs or on the golf course. Thank you for being a dedicated volunteer and active member since 2000.
The Lorraine Powell Membership Award – Eileen Roehl, CMP, Murfee Meetings Group
This award honors past president and MPI Georgia Champion, Lorraine Powell. The award recognizes the person that has had the most impact on new members in our chapter over the past year. New members, board members, and past presidents comprise the group who determines the award recipient. Lorraine had a true passion for this industry and for MPI Georgia.  She had a loving spirit, courageous nature and a postivie attitude that was contagious for new members, and Eileen also exudes these same qualities.
