WEC Opportunities and Beyond

Last year I attended MPI’s Annual World Education Congress in 2017. Being new to the Board of Directors, I had no idea what to expect during my time in Las Vegas. As soon as I arrived, I was blown away by the experiences offered to me. During the Chapter Business Meeting, our facilitator challenged us to put on our thinking hats and brainstorm with other chapter members around the country. We connected with peers in similar roles, which provided an opportunity to strategize how we want our chapters to operate in the future.  These learning exchanges provided me with a candid view of how I could improve as a leader.

The WEC program delivered four days of packed education content. The varied educational formats enabled me to learn creative event design concepts and connect with speakers we may consider for our upcoming educational programs. I left with a bundle of knowledge that I can apply in my daily role as a planner.

Top Reasons to Attend WEC 2019 Toronto

  • Education – Expand your knowledge of the events industry and focus on how you can improve your strengths. Are you working toward your CMP? WEC is an excellent source to earn credits and apply technical and interpersonal skills in a collaborative environment.
  • Grow your network – “There are never too many contacts” is most applicable in the events industry. I am thankful for the relationships I have created during these conferences. It is imperative to get yourself out there and create experiences with your peers.
  • Create your own personal brand – WEC provides creative branding opportunities for both planners and suppliers. Take advantage building your contacts and learn how to market yourself as an individual. For those who own a business, work for a corporate planner, or a DMC – there are benefits for all. Think of how you can create your legacy in the industry and get involved! It’s never too late to jump in and create your best self.

Overall, WEC has enabled me to improve my leadership skills and strive for continuous success when developing chapter educational programs. As the Vice President of Education, I plan to focus on advancing my knowledge in developing educational programs, as well as passing on some of these experiences to you. I encourage all members to attend our Education Programs in order to connect and engage with MPI.

Hope you can attend the Quarterly Luncheon Meeting on Tuesday, July 17, at the Atlanta Marriott Century Center.
