2017 - 2018 President

Last June, I stated my goal was to have you – our membership and key stakeholders – say that this board of directors was the most accessible and in-tune board you’ve ever experienced. Looking back over our collective accomplishments, I feel that that has been realized.

We were able to provide you the opportunity to meet with new and old friends through networking events in unique venues where attendance records were shattered. Our educational programs were thought-provoking and set us all up to better mover our industry forward. (I know I have embraced Michael Dominguez’s disruption philosophy from his September program.) We continued partnering with other industry colleagues for both philanthropic and educational purposes this year. We fostered relationships by connecting our supplier and planner members through advertising and sponsorships. We established new friendships by providing a space for our members to get to known one another on a personal and professional level through our social media outlets. And we had a lot of fun: be it on the dance floor at the Phoenix Awards are the links at the Fall Classic.

My time serving as president of MPI Georgia has been so rewarding and I look forward to continuing to support this chapter and our members as I transition to the role of immediate past president. Just like I said from the lectern of last year’s Phoenix Awards, come talk to me. Tell me how I can help make your membership invaluable.

Tim Barrett, CMP
2017 - 2018 President Elect

My MPI membership card reads that I first became a member in 2004. In the years since, I can say with great certainty that virtually every professional success that I’ve been lucky to experience is a direct result from my involvement with this chapter. I can also say, that a good number of friends and a great deal of fun and laughter can be tied back to MPI Georgia. My wish is that each of you can say the same.

To assist, your incoming 2018-2019 board of directors has been busy building on the foundation we have been fortunate to inherit from the previous board and leaders. It is our collective goal to provide you with quality and engaging educational content and learning opportunities for professional and personal growth. We are solidifying a cohesive calendar addressing topics that you have told us is important and will impact our industry in the future.

Fostering connections is of equal importance. Atlanta has an ever evolving and growing events market and our teams are securing the perfect spaces to help grow those relationships as well as letting you be one of the first to experience the latest venue. Additionally, we will continue raising the bar with our signature events creating new memories, lasting friendships, and ideas that you can use for your next event.

One reason I became an active volunteer when I first became a member was because I felt “heard” and that my opinion mattered. We have plans to conduct focus groups to ensure we are providing you with the resources and opportunities that are important to you. Additionally, we know that the strength of the chapter lies within our volunteer members. As such, talks are underway on several ground-breaking initiatives to engage all our members and solidify a solid roster of future leaders.

It’s important that this chapter be forward-focused. Our world and industry changes rapidly and we will strive to be ahead of the curve. Our communications team has been busy preparing for a complete website overhaul that will be introduced shortly. MPI Global has also worked to provide timely content available online as a benefit of membership.

I look forward to getting to know each of you better, and on behalf of the board of directors, thank you for your contributions and please let us know how we may better serve you.
